Cox Plate dream with Forgot You

Trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are already starting to dream of a Gr.1 Cox Plate (2040m) with their Group One performer Forgot You (NZ) (Savabeel).

The son of Savabeel has returned fresh from a pleasing three-year-old term where he won the Gr.2 Stutt Stakes (1600m), Gr.2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m), and ran third in the Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

He was runner-up in his jumpout at Cranbourne on Tuesday, his second public appearance this preparation.

“Forgot You ended up running second behind Passive Aggressive and had a bit of a squeeze, which he needed, and he had a bit of a blow,” Young told RSN.

“He had that one trial last Friday when we took him to Sale. He trialled up really nicely there, but he is still a big colt and they take a bit more fitness and you have got to give them that little bit more of a push.

“With Forgot You our target ideally is the Cox Plate, that’s the big dream. He is so effective at The Valley, he is three from three.”

Young said Forgot You is set to have just two runs in the lead-up to the Cox Plate.

“It is his second jumpout today and he will carry on to The Valley on the 20th (August) in the handicap 1500m and then carry on from there into the Feehan (Gr.2, 1600m) and then hopefully if he wins the Feehan then he is into the Cox Plate.

“That is a nice programme for him – third-up into a Cox Plate.”

Young has been pleased with the progress of the four-year-old and believes he will be ideally suited to the Cox Plate.

“He spelled great and he has come through his trial well this morning,” she said.

“I think 2000m is his top end. He didn’t quite get there in the Derby and over-raced a little bit. He was effective in the Vase at The Valley when he won the Group Two. He has shown that he has that good turn of foot at The Valley.”

Bred by Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick, Forgot You is out of the winning O’Reilly mare Simply You (NZ), a daughter of multiple Group One winner Glamour Puss (NZ) (Tale of the Cat). Forgot You was purchased by Busuttin Racing for A$330,000 as a two-year-old after being prepared by Ohukia Lodge on behalf of Waikato Stud.
