Werribee Racing Club is set to host a nine-race program for its Cup Day meeting on Sunday afternoon. HorseBetting’s Victorian racing expert has gone through the card and picked out his best bets for the day, which kicks off at 12:45pm AEDT.

Werribee Cup Top Tip – Castlereagh Kid

Having won the Group 2 Autumn Classic at Caulfield earlier in the year, it is hard to see how the superior staying abilities of Castlereagh Kid does not stand tall in a race like the Werribee Cup (2000m). With the firmer deck and at 2000m third-up from a spell, not only does he bring a certain element of class to the race, but he brings superior form lines to what his rivals do. Jordan Childs will look to find the rail upon settling and have Castlereagh Kid rated a treat out in front. He should gain a relatively uncontested lead and considering how well weighted he is in this, the son of Snitzel looks too hard to ignore in the Werribee Cup.

Best Bet at Werribee – Rain Lord

Our best bet of the day comes up in the second leg of the quaddie when the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Rain Lord steps out over 1100m. The three-year-old gelding smashed his rivals to break his maiden at Tatura as an odds-on favourite when managing to put three-lengths on Blixten who has since come out and won at Wangaratta on Thursday. It is hard to knock the record that the son of Lord of the Sky brings to the race, with three seconds and a win to begin his career. From barrier five, Michael Poy will have this bloke bounding along out in front and a repeat effort of his Tatura win should be more than good enough for his rivals in a race like this.

Best Bet

Race 7 – Silk #7 Rain Lord (5)

3yo Gelding | T: Peter & Paul Snowden | J: Michael Poy (57.5kg)

$3.50 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Werribee – Calvi

Having only gone down by under a length at Kyneton over 1850m upon resumption, the Danny O’Brien-trained Calvi looks one of the better bets of the program. He was forced to race on the tougher going, so the fact the Sea The Stars gelding did so well to finish as close as he did, he looks a great way to kick off Cup Day with fair conditions. Daniel Moor will look to have this bloke settled in the one-one at worst throughout and when asked for an effort, Calvi looks the most progressive horse in the race and at his third start should be breaking his maiden.

Next Best

Race 1 – Silk #1 Calvi (6)

3yo Gelding | T: Danny O’Brien | J: Daniel Moor (59.5kg)

$2.35 with Palmerbet

Best Value at Werribee – Amenophis

The Mark & Levi Kavanagh-trained Amenophis is a runner who looks set to appreciate getting back on to firmer going, coming off a disappointing effort at Kyneton first-up on a Heavy 8. The American Pharoah colt will be having just his third career start on Sunday and having chased home the likes of Amenable and Jamarra in his debut campaign, this is sure to be much easier for him. From barrier 10, if Jamie Mott can have him settled closer to the speed as he done in jumpouts, Amenophis has upside we are yet to see on race day and looks a great each-way bet with online bookmakers.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #5 Amenophis (10)

3yo Colt | T: Mark & Levi Kavanagh | J: Jamie Mott (58kg)
