Wairio Betting Guide

The Wairio Trotting Club have taken the work out of finding a winner at their huge Wairio Cup Day meeting at Winton today.

Check out our expert selections!

Wairio Winners – Race 1

Stepping back from longer trips to this mobile mile event looks a huge positive for Minnie McGoogan.

She gets keen in her races and it takes its toll over the staying distances, but there is little chance of that here.

Jordan Anne is a very genuine trotter who should give her eachway backers a good sight.

Dwindle Mist brings the right kind of form to be a major player in this field.

Our Countdown is coming to it and though her form doesn’t look great her last run had some merit.

Dem Bones Dem Bones ran a ripping race on Wednesday at Oamaru, the only concern here is moving back to the shorter trip.

Selections: Minnie McGoogan (5), Jordan Anne (4), Dwindle Star (3), Our Countdown (6)

Suggested Bet: Minnie McGoogan – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 2

Five O’Clock Gerry deserves a winning turn and he looks well placed to get it here.

He ran an excellent race behind much more proven trotters last week which means he is very well placed back in the maiden grade.

Indurain loomed up to win his last start but made a mistake. He clearly has the game to run well if he can stay trotting.

Joy Jaccka has impressed in her trials and looks a strong eachway hope.

Janaka’s Delight and Judicate both bring patchy form, but their recent trials suggest they may be able to turn that around with more polished performances.

Selections: Five O’Clock Gerry (3), Indurain (6), Joy Jaccka (2), Janaka’s Delight

Suggested Bet: Five O’Clock Gerry – Win

Wairio Winners – Race 3

Tact McLeod has looked classy in his trials and workouts and looks set for a big debut.

While he hasn’t drawn perfectly he has the right driver to find him a winning run.

Smart I Am has drawn reasonably well by comparison and he should be expected to run another good race following his recent seconds.

Cash Affair is another that hasn’t drawn perfectly but his last start effort was outstanding and with any luck he’s right in this.

Rakadan and On The Beach rate next best in a maiden field that has plenty of depth.

Selections: Tact McLeod (10), Smart I Am (5), Cash Affair (13), Rakadan (8)

Suggested Bet: Tact McLeod – Win

Wairio Winners – Race 4

Sophie will be out to improve on her solid last start fifth on this track.

Going by some of her previous efforts she is capable of doing that and she rates top pick.

Most punters know I’m Watching You well and his formline says it all.

Though he doesn’t win too often, his top-three strike rate is excellent.

Franco Huntington could be the best value in this race.

His form says no, but his draw is going to be a massive plus as he races best on the pace.

The veteran Jabali ran a cheeky race in his last start and should be considered in Trifectas and First4s.

The Matriarch is far from the worst option, but she needs some luck from a tough draw.

Selections: Sophie (5), I’m Watching You (10), Franco Huntington (3), Jabali (2)

Suggested Bet: I’m Watching You – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 5

Punters need to assess the value of drawing well in this field when assessing the top two picks.

Mighthavtime brings the best form and deserves to be top pick but she has to overcome barrier 13.

With a leading driver in the cart she looks a big chance of being able to do that.

Magic Sign has drawn perfectly in barrier 1, which makes him a strong winning chance.

The race could easily pan out much more in his favour from the ace.

Magnetic Beckers follows Magic Sign out at the start which means he must be considered in your calculations.

Hangin With Hector is a capable type but he faces a tricky draw, expect him to be finishing on late.

Selections: Mighthavtime (13), Magic Sign (1), Magnetic Beckers (9), Hangin With Hector (8)

Suggested Bet: Mighthavtime – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 6

Onwardsandupwards looks well placed to cash in from the best draw of her short career here.

She was last seen running on very nicely at Ascot Park last week.

Hit The Lights went a huge race in her last outing at Cromwell and looks a very serious winning threat.

She also has tactical speed, which could prove a crucial factor.

These two are very hard to split.

Conquer Clare went a huge race at Ascot Park running third, she’s a genuine hope.

Beach Day looks a promising type and the only factor against her is her very tough draw in barrier 14.

Selections: Onwardsandupwards (2), Hit The Lights (3), Conquer Clare (6), Beach Day (14)

Suggested Bet: Onwardsandupwards & Hit The Lights – Quinella

Wairio Winners – Race 7

Netherton Franco comes into this race after a herculean effort to run second at Cromwell.

She only has to produce something in the same ballpark to be very hard to beat.

Sweet Treat follows the favourite out at the start which means she must be considered in your calculations.

Beautiful Noise brings generally consistent form and she slots into a nice draw, so she must be considered.

Boarding Call is fresh up with a tough draw but her recent trial at Oamaru was excellent and she can get amongst this.

Insarchatwist should be considered, she is far from the worst option.

Selections: Netherton Franco (1), Beautiful Noise (2), Boarding Call (8), Sweet Treat (9)

Suggested Bet: Netherton Franco – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 8

A strong last start effort amongst classy mares bodes well for De La Renta.

She ran a very creditable third behind classy performers which looks strong form for this race.

Macandrew Navigator is a very consistent type who slots into a lovely draw, he must rate a threat.

He’s A Meister impressed in the lower grades in his last start and he looks to have the upside to compete here.

Amass is another horse stepping up in grade but he’s shown plenty of speed, so expect him to be finishing on strongly.

Nutcracker has trialled well recently and is in the mix as well.

Selections: De La Renta (3), Macandrew Navigator (2), He’s A Meister (6), Amass (7)

Suggested Bet: De La Renta – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 9

Moving to the wide open spaces of the Winton track looks a big plus for Mixed Faith.

She ran a creditable third at Ascot Park last week but she should be even harder to beat on this track.

Mad Jack looks a very promising type, he’s facing his toughest test to date but expect him to measure up.

Domination’s Call comes into this race on the back of an excellent third in a much harder race.

His back mark won’t be easy to overcome but he’s well up to winning.

Simone Lindenny is in a similar position, she must be considered on her class.

Port Pegasus rates next best, he’s consistent but gives away a race fitness edge to his rivals.

Selections: Mixed Faith (7), Mad Jack (8), Domination’s Call (11), Simone Lindenny (12)

Suggested Bet: Mixed Faith – Eachway

Wairio Winners – Race 10

Macandrew Aviator looks primed and ready for another cup win after his outstanding last start victory in the Northern Southland Cup.

A repeat of the fast beginning he made in that race would be a huge help in overcoming his 35m handicap.

Sand Wave is all class and he’s a huge danger to Macandrew Aviator.

A lack of recent racing may look to count against him but expect his stable to have him very ready to strike.

Mach Quillan was just fair behind Macandrew Aviator last week but he looks well placed over today’s shorter trip to give plenty of cheek from the front line.

Tairlaw Toll bounced back to his best form at Ascot Park in the lower grades, a repeat of that kind of effort has him in the mix.

The consistent Magnetic Terror is another to consider in Trifectas and First4s.

Selections: Macandrew Aviator (7), Sand Wave (8), Mach Quillan (2), Tairlaw Toll (5)

Suggested Bet: Macandrew Aviator & Sand Wave – Quinella

Wairio Winners – Race 11

Captain Starlight’s tactical speed and great draw should put him in striking position to gain a deserved win.

The pacer brings consistent form and he was unlucky at Ascot Park last week when only getting out late.

Wattlebank Arnie is another very strong winning hope, he’s drawn well and has the speed to be finishing over the top of most of this field.

The Vicar Of Dibley really caught the eye in her last start at Winton when rattling home out wide.

Only drawing barrier 8 counts against her today.

Rightazz is a consistent type closing in on a win and he looks a strong eachway option.

Lou’s Deal, McLean and Bowlem Over and all options for your Trifectas and First4s.

Selections: Captain Starlight (3), Wattlebank Arnie (2), The Vicar Of Dibley (8), Rightazz (7)

Suggested Bet: Captain Starlight – Eachway
