What Bathurst Races
Where Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing – 55 Eleven Mile Dr, Bathurst NSW 2795
When Tuesday, December 6, 2022
First Race 2:05pm AEDT

Bathurst is the place to be on Tuesday afternoon as we have a seven-race program to dissect out of the central-west of New South Wales. We’ve got a Soft 5 track listed for raceday, but a drying forecast heading into Tuesday could lead us into the Good 4 range. The rail sits in the true position and racing gets underway at 2:05pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Sinaloa

We look to the penultimate race of the afternoon to find our best of the day at Bathurst in the form of the Bjorn Baker-trained Sinaloa. She looks perfectly placed here back into Class 2 to notch career win number three after an eye-catching effort last start at Warwick Farm on November 23, beaten 1.8 lengths by Tidal Impact. That was an on-speed affair and she just had far too much ground to make up from the back of the field; however, she hit the line with plenty in hand and looks well suited here with a favourable speed map and striping fitter for that third-up performance. Winona Costin takes the reins on this daughter of Redoute’s Choice and will look to find a spot somewhere midfield with cover before hitting the line to victory. She’s got to lug the 60.5kg here, but assuming she runs to her best form, she earns it.

Next Best: Overice

Overice is looking for her third win on the trot at Bathurst and finds another winnable race to do exactly that. Her key rivals come from the same form-line when running in behind her at Muswellbrook on November 25 when going on to score by a length. She sat behind the leader on that occasion before peeling out to win in stylish fashion, with Eva’s Deel and Light Of Uluru no match for her over the 1750m. We step up to 1800m here on Tuesday, and even with a slight weight disadvantage, we find it hard to see Overice’s rivals turning the tables on what was a dominant win to the eye. She draws to get a similar run and Alysha Collett sticks after booting her home for her latest victory — hopefully she can do it again.

Next Best Again: Canada Bay

We’ll be looking for Alysha Collett and David Pfieffer to combine in back-to-back races with Canada Bay in the third event on the program. This three-year-old by Vancouver returns after a 164-day spell after having just the one career start as a two-year-old, beaten a convincing nine lengths to Alpha One at Newcastle on June 25. We’re happy to forget that run, however, with two outstanding trials leading into this first-up performance, in particular the latter trial at Warwick Farm on November 18. She was cuddled to the line and made terrific inroads late to get within 2.5 lengths of the winner. She looks perfectly placed by Pfieffer and the team, and from barrier two there shouldn’t be too many excuses for her.
