Tidal Force strikes in Australia

It’s been a month to remember for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable and they continued their strong run of form with Tidal Force (NZ) (Darci Brahma) winning at his Australian debut on the Pakenham Synthetic on Wednesday.

Breaking his maiden, the former Kiwi won in a photo finish after nabbing gelding Bon Appetit (Bon Hoffa) right on the line.

Partnered by jockey Blaike McDougall, the four-year-old settled midfield under a patient ride, waiting for the gap to open in the straight before kicking ahead when it did, as did Bon Appetit, but it was Tidal Force getting the honours as the pair fought it out in the finish.

Busuttin was on course for the victory and said he’d been confident the son of Darci Brahma would be tough to beat despite him drifting late in the betting.

“It was good and it’s always good to win in those colours, Rick Williams and Dick Karreman, The Oaks Stud, they’re big supporters of ours and the industry as a whole,” he said.

“We thought we’d come here and be hard to beat and then just come and watch him drift and drift and drift in the beating.

“I was thinking what’s going on here, has he lost a leg? But narrowly he got the job done.

“He’ll definitely get out over a bit, seven furlongs, even a mile.”
