Gosford racing preview

What Gosford Races
Where Gosford Racecourse – Racecourse Rd, West Gosford NSW 2250
When Thursday, October 6, 2022
First Race 1:25pm AEDT

Gosford Racecourse holds the featured provincial meeting on Thursday afternoon with an eight-race card starting at 1:25pm AEDT. We currently have a Heavy 9 track for the meeting, though with plenty of rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday we could find ourselves with a Heavy 10. Let’s just hope we can get the meeting run and won by the days end with the last race to jump at 5:50pm AEST. The rail is back in the True position the entire circuit, so we expect the track to play fair and conditions playing the major factor in results.

Best Bet at Gosford: Satness

Our best bet comes nice and early in the first race on the card, Satness is a gelding by Sweynesse trained out of the Robert & Luke Price yard and finds a very winnable race. He comes here after just missing out last start behind Wealthy Investor beaten 0.66 lengths September 22 at Hawkesbury. He was storming home that day and we expect him to do something similar, however with a small field and less tempo, Tommy Berry can be more positive and look to press forward from barrier-four snagging the one-by-one would be ideal. Satness took care of race rival Notabadsuspect in that same race on September 22 quite easily and hopefully he can breeze past him yet again to salute today.

Next Best at Gosford: Essential Sky

You know the saying, always back greys in the wet! Essential Sky comes here fourth-up in what has been an outstanding prep so far from this mare by Reliable Man. She won first-up this time in and has since been to a couple of tough midways at Randwick, the latest over the mile running into fourth on September 17. She finally gets back out to a suitable trip here at the 1900m and is very well in at the weights today carrying just 55kg whilst dropping back in grade to BM68 level. Rachel King sticks after riding her the last two starts for John Sargent, drawn the inside expect her to be around mid-field and once clear hitting the line very strongly in conditions that will be very suitable.

5yo Mare | T: John Sargent | J: Rachel King (55kg)

Best Value at Gosford: London

We look to finish the day with an intriguing galloper by Capitalist and the Chris Waller yard. London comes here after a disappointing run last start on September 22 finishing behind Walkin’talkin’ by 2.52 lengths, however there were plenty of excuses that day in a small field and he was only coming off his maiden victory the start before. He’s green but posses plenty of ability and we saw that with his maiden victory two starts back at Hawkesbury on a very Heavy track, chances are he gets something very similar today and should relish the bottomless Gosford conditions by the end of the day. We’d love Tommy Berry press forward from the draw and take up the running, he’s fit enough and could easily kick clear of his rivals at a nice price with online bookmakers.

Best Value

Race 8 – Yellow silks#14 London (3)

3yo Colt | T: Chris Waller | J: Tommy Berry (56.5kg)

$6.50 with Bet365
