Sale racing preview

What Sale Races
Where Sale Turf Club – 1227 Maffra Road, Sale VIC 3850
When Wednesday, October 5, 2022
First Race 1pm AEDT

Racing returns to Sale Turf Club this Wednesday with a very competitive eight-race program kicking off at 1pm AEDT. The track is rated as a Soft 5 currently, but with some good weather around in Victoria we could find ourselves on a Good track on raceday. The rail will be out in the 5m position for the entire circuit.

Sale Best Bet: Entremet

Our best bet at Sale will come up in the first race of the day. Entremet comes off an impressive maiden win on the Pakenham synthetic on September 22. This Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained filly has to step up from maiden grade to a three-year-old Benchmark 64 Handicap, but that should be fine for this talented girl. Patrick Maloney will take the ride from barrier six, which should suit her get-back-and-run-on style. If Maloney can have this daughter of Magnus peeling off the leader’s back as they turn into the straight, she will be letting down strongly late.

Next Best at Sale: Hesket

In the very last race of the day, we are going to be with the Mathew Ellerton-trained Hesket. This four-year-old gelding has been very impressive at his first two starts back this preparation, recording a fourth and a third and catching the eye both times. Damian Lane has ridden this gelding four times in 12 starts for a win and three minor placings, so we definitely have his favourite jockey on board. If this son of Fastnet Rock can be closer in the running from barrier five, we could see a much better result.

Next Best Again at Sale: Eventually

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Eventually has a very good resume after only facing the starter five times for one win and two seconds. However, this four-year-old mare finished second before going out for a spell in the $500,000 VOBIS Sires Guineas at Caulfield on April 23. This girl will be returning from a five-month spell, and considering she is returning in a Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1208m, Blake Shinn should know that he has the best horse in the field and he should ride her as such. If Shinn can have this girl in a rhythm at the back of the field, she will be lengthening very nicely late and hopefully running them down.
