What Sale Races
Where Sale Turf Club – 1227 Maffra-Sale Rd, Sale VIC 3850
When Wednesday, June 8, 2022
First Race 12:10pm AEST

Sale Turf Club hosts an eight-race program on Wednesday afternoon with the first race set to commence at 12:10pm AEST. Gallopers will be running on a predicted Heavy 9 surface after the region copped 15mm of rain earlier in the week, and the rail is out 5m for the entire circuit. Jumps and steeplechases make up the first three races on the card, while the quaddie legs will be conducted from races five to eight.

BEST BET AT SALE: HEY HAPPY

With only six runners in this event we won’t be getting huge odds, but Hey Happy is consistent and he has won on the Heavy. He won well at Casterton on May 5 over the jumps and this race isn’t much harder than that. Since then he ran a respectable fourth at Sandown Lakeside in a harder race than this before being backed to win last start at Hamilton, but he failed to finish. With his astute trainer being Patrick Payne, we are trusting that there were no issues after the run and he is firing on all cylinders for this race.

NEXT BEST AT SALE: GRAVISTAS

This horse goes pretty good on wet surfaces and his run at Hamilton last time on a Heavy 10 was full of merit when third. The other time this horse has raced on a similar surface in the last 18 months it was another third at Kilmore, so we are playing on conditions more than anything else. Gravistas is pretty versatile and has the ability to settle on pace in his races or be ridden cold, so that is one less issue and he can concentrate on getting over all of the jumps.

BEST VALUE AT SALE: ENUFF HE SAID

This horse will be one of the fittest in the race after five runs in from a spell. He has been in the top three in five of his last six starts, and this is a little easier than his Caulfield field when ninth after leading. We don’t expect him to lead in this event, but we feel he should settle handy around third or fourth. Before the Caulfield run on April 23 it was a very good Geelong run on a Good surface. In terms of Heavy track form, there isn’t any, but he has placed two or three times on Soft 5 tracks, so he doesn’t mind a little sting out of the ground. Barrier 17 is a slight issue, but with Billy Egan on we think he will be positive early. The betting sites are giving us great each-way odds.
