NZB’s South Island Sale to be held on Gavelhouse Plus

The first-ever New Zealand Bloodstock sale to be conducted on’s new online platform, Gavelhouse Plus, will be NZB’s annual South Island Sale.

Postponed from its original April date to August due to the COVID-19 lockdown and travel restrictions, the decision has now been made to sell the horses online in June.

Gavelhouse Plus allows NZB to use the original conditions of sale which allows selling to registered bidders only while paying the vendor out as it would a traditional auction.

“One of the biggest benefits is that the horses offered will be Karaka Million Series eligible, which wasn’t possible until now,” commented NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.

“After liaising with several South Island vendors over the last few weeks it is envisaged that most of the horses catalogued for August will transfer to Gavelhouse Plus.”

Leading vendor Gus Wigley from Inglewood Stud is positive about the online arrangement.

“I think that NZB has gone above and beyond to try and find a solution for breeders given the current economic climate.

“We struck success at Karaka 2020 selling a Zacinto colt for $280,000 in Book 1, but we decided to keep our two best colts for the South Island Sale.

“They are both strong Zacinto colts and we now have the ability to provide as much information as we can for prospective buyers, including conformation images and x-rays.

“The innovation of Gavelhouse Plus is an exciting new venture, particularly for the South Island vendors and I believe they will be grateful for this new initiative,” said Wigley.
