What Morphettville Parks Races
Where Morphettville Racecourse – 79 Morphett Rd, Morphettville SA 5043
When Saturday, September 9, 2023
First Race 12:22pm ACST

The Parks track at Morphettville is the destination is for metropolitan racing in South Australia this Saturday, with a nine-race card kicking off at 12:22pm local time. With plenty of rain forecast on Thursday and showers on Friday, we expect to be racing on quite a rain-affected surface. The rail comes out 6m from 1000m to the winning post, then out 3m for the remainder.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Run Like Hell

The Maddie Raymond-trained Run Like Hell was a hard watch for those who backed her last start at the Morphettville Parks 1250m. The five-year-old mare was held up for most of the home straight, and she did well to go down by two lengths in an event where she was never allowed to show her best. Barrier nine and the booking of Jake Toeroek should see the Hellbent mare take up the running, and if she doesn’t have to exert too much energy, Run Like Hell will prove too hard to gun down.

Next Best at Morphettville: Storm Hunter

Storm Hunter was a dominant 1250m winner on the Parks track on August 26, and we expect he will handle the step into BM70 grade with aplomb. The five-year-old gelding will have no issue holding a prominent spot under Jacob Opperman, who claims 1.5kg. With plenty of speed in the race, we anticipate Opperman will look to take a sit off the speed, and on the back of a strongly run affair, Storm Hunter can sprint the better and bring up a third win from four starts.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silk #5 Storm Hunter (3)

5yo Gelding | T: Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray | J: Jacob Opperman (a1.5) (59kg)

Best Value at Morphettville: Angaston

Angaston produced a stunning turn of foot late to salute in a 0-64 at the Parks track 1400m, and at the price, he looks a great play in the finale. The seven-year-old gelding settled well back in the field during that win and finished the best down the heart of the track. This is a BM64, so it is a touch harder, but with in-form apprentice Kelsey Hannan on board claiming 3kg, Angaston just needs to carry 57.5kg. With such a favourable weight, he should be able to replicate his finishing burst from last time and prove too hard to hold out.

Best Value

Race 9 – Silk #3 Angaston (6)

7yo Gelding | T: Jon O’Connor | J: Kelsey Hannan (a3) (60.5kg)
