• 2022: Lickety Split digs deep
  Quality two-year-old filly Lickety Split refused to yield to a sustained challenge when narrowly taking out the 2022 Group 1 Sistema Stakes (1200m). The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained daughter of Turn Me Loose had scored impressively at the Auckland course on debut last month but was the most inexperienced runner in the seven-horse field. Lickety Split ($10.80) was sent out as the punter’s third-elect behind last-start Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) winner Dynastic ($1.50) and previously unbeaten Group 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) winner Maven Belle ($3.90), both from Jamie Richards Te Akau Racing team. Jockey Matthew Cameron made good use of barrier 2 and settled the filly to the outside of leader Alabama Gold, travelling sweetly throughout before issuing her challenge upon straightening for home. Clearly headed shortly afterwards by Dynastic, Lickety Split refused to give in as she fought back to defeat the favourite by a nose, who held out stablemate Maven Belle by a head for second, with Desert Lightning charging home from last to finish close-up in fourth.
• 2021: Sword Of State smashes rivals
  Quality two-year-old Sword Of State and rider Opie Bosson made it a one-horse affair at Ellerslie when they blitzed their rivals in the Group 1 Sistema Stakes (1200m). Sent out a dominant $1.60 favourite off the back of a six-length win in the Group 3 Waikato Stud Slipper (1200m) on his home track at Matamata last time out, the Snitzel colt never gave his rivals a look in, courtesy of a copybook effort from Bosson. Bosson made full use of an inside barrier as he bounced Sword Of State straight to the front and set up a steady tempo as stablemate and second favourite On The Bubbles sat outside him. On The Bubbles made his attack at the top of the straight and looked to be going well but Bosson was just foxing on Sword Of State who kicked away again at the 300m. Bosson had an armchair ride over the final stages as Sword Of State extended away from a gallant On The Bubbles to win untouched by three lengths with classy filly Bonny Lass battling on gamely for third ahead of Magneto.
• 2020: Cool Aza Beel shows class
  Outstanding juvenile Cool Aza Beel kept the Group 1 winning roll of Te Akau Racing going as he dominated his rivals when taking out the Group 1 Sistema Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie. A stylish winner of the Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) at the venue in late January, the Savabeel colt didn’t have the best dress rehearsal for Saturday’s contest when beaten into second by stablemate Need I Say More at Matamata a fortnight prior on a slow and tricky track surface. Back on good footing and drawn barrier one, punters installed the Jamie Richards-trained runner as a dominating $1.70 favourite and he never gave his fans a moment of concern once he slotted into the trail for rider Opie Bosson. Bosson bided his time behind a steady pace before angling three-wide on the point of the home turn to issue a challenge. Asked for his effort, Cool Aza Beel shot two-lengths clear and kept up a powerful gallop to defeat improving filly Vernazza and the late-finishing Kelly Renee who shaded Play That Song for third.
• 2019: Yourdeel grips on as favourite
  Rider Opie Bosson made it Group One-win number sixty-two when he guided hot favourite Yourdeel to victory in the 2019 Sistema Stakes. Yourdeel was backing up from a comprehensive victory in the Group 3 Waikato Stud Slipper (1200m) on a Slow 7 surface at Matamata. With that proven ability on a wet track, punters were keen to unload on the Dundeel two-year-old and sent him out at cramped odds ($1.70) in the juvenile feature that was run on a Heavy 10 surface following persistent mid-morning rain in Auckland. Allowed to stride forward early in the piece off his wide barrier, Yourdeel travelled boldly on the outer for Bosson as the field swung wide into the home straight. Cuddled up by Bosson, Yourdeel hit the front with 200m to run before holding out the late challenges of Aalaalune and Aretha to score by a head at the line.
• 2018: Sword Of Osman puts opposition way with ease
  Sword Of Osman has taken pole position in the race for this season’s champion two-year-old honours. The slick son of Savabeel went to the top of the juvenile rankings when he produced another powerful front-running performance to win the Group 1 Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie off the back of his runaway success in the Group 3 Matamata Slipper (1200m). Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Sword of Osman had won three of his four starts with his sole defeat coming in the Karaka Million (1200m). Autridge said their pre-race plan was to let the gelding continue his customary pacemaking role and those instructions were perfectly executed by ride Opie Bosson, who had labelled the youngster a special talent before he had raced.
