Super Seth 3YO impresses in Sydney

Kundabung, a three-year-old gelding trained by Chris Waller, secured his maiden win in commanding fashion on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday.

The son of Super Seth surged from off the pace to claim victory in the 1400m Drinkwise Plate, defeating fellow Super Seth gelding So Long Farewell, by 1.5 lengths.

Bred by Waikato Stud, Kundabung is out of the O’Reilly mare O’Dianne, making him a half-brother to Listed winner Avebury, who won at Caulfield last week and Gr.1 Queensland Derby placegetter Paternal.

Despite his evident talent, Kundabung has faced challenges at the barriers, having been scratched previously due to gate issues.

Trainer Chris Waller credited jockey Adam Hyeronimus for his work with the gelding.

“Full credit to Adam, he has done a lot of work with him. The horse has got ability, as you can see, he has just lacked it mentally,” Waller said.

“He will get to a mile easily, but we just wanted to see him do things right, and when the horse was playing up in the barriers, it’s dangerous, not just for the horse, but obviously the jockey and the starters’ attendants.

“So you’ve got to get all those little things right before you can go planning ahead. Hopefully, we can progress through to a Saturday race at least.”

Super Seth has made a stunning start to his stud career with three Group One winners from his first two crops including Feroce, Linebacker and La Dorada.

The Waikato Stud stallion will stand for $75,000 plus GST this season.
