Eight races will be run and won at Moruya for the club’s postponed Cup meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail in the +3m position from the 1000m-380m before the cutaway rail comes into play. Race 1 will jump at 1:04pm.
Best Bet – Race 3 #13 Boomahnoomoonah $1.90
Tommy Berry heads to Moruya on Thursday and we’ve got good reason to believe that this is the horse he is here for. The three-year-old filly is by Vancouver, who Berry guided to victory in the Golden Slipper, so he no doubt has a bit of time for his offspring. Boomahnoomoonah has had just the five career starts for two seconds at her two most recent runs, so she is working towards a win. Having had a look around Moruya first-up, she should be good enough to win this.
Next Best – Race 5 #3 Dip My Lid $3.60
Race 5 on the program looks a handy little race over the 2010m trip. Blaike McDougall won on the five-year-old gelding last start at Canberra, so he knows the horse well enough to control terms here. Drawn the inside alley, Dip My Lid will rail like a greyhound, hold the lead and should prove too strong. He’s deep into his campaign here and racing very well, so we expect him to win again for Keith Dryden.
Best Value – Race 8 #2 St Anton $7
St Anton comes into this race second-up after proving too strong in a Class 2 here three weeks ago. The son of Redoute’s Choice steps up to the 1435m which should suit, given he is drawn well to get a nice cart into the race under Chad Lever. He can find a very prominent position from barrier 2 and should be too good around a track he loves. At good odds (with the best Australian betting sites), St Anton is our value bet for Moruya.
