There is racing all over the country on Melbourne Cup Day, and HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie picks for the eight-race card at Eagle Farm. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 12m for the entire course. The opening race of the afternoon is set to jump at 12:10pm AEST, with the last race due for 5:29pm.
Best Bet at Eagle Farm – King Klaus
King Klaus goes around in the penultimate race of the day over 1000m, and we are confident that he is just a put-in, pull-out job. We tip this six-year-old every time he races, and while the back-to-back runner-up performances have dented the armour a touch, he looks incredibly hard to beat here at $7.50. Coming off a very narrow second to Tambo’s Mate on October 2 at Doomben, this son of Love Conquers All should relish getting back to Eagle Farm, while the freshen-up will have done him a world of good. From barrier seven, the Gary Clem-trained gelding will be up on the speed absorbing the pressure and then toughing it out at the end.
Next Best at Eagle Farm – Ingear
Tony Gollan will saddle up Ingear in the second leg of the quaddie in a 1200m Benchmark 75 Handicap. The five-year-old daughter of Dissident is a genuine track specialist, winning three and placing on four other occasions from 10 starts at Eagle Farm, including a first-up win over The Big Goodbye, who won well here on Saturday. Ryan Maloney gets back in the saddle, replacing Stephanie Thornton, which is a tick, while third-up on a bone-dry track should suit. We think you could have her one-out in your quaddie.
Best Value at Eagle Farm – Titanium
Barry Lockwood and Larry Cassidy combine in the fourth with a very lightly raced five-year-old gelding called Titanium. The son of Smart Missile has won just the once, but he has only had three career starts, so the 33% strike rate is impressive. On debut, Titanium was backed in from $15 to $10 and was able to salute by half a length over A River Somewhere and Dr Why Not. That win came in July last year at this track and distance, so that is a huge box ticked. He will get back from barrier seven, but if he has come back well, he will win this.
