Feature racing returns to Caulfield on Saturday afternoon for the 2025/26 season with a stacked nine-race meeting set down for decision. The Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) headlines proceedings and is supported by two Group 3 events for the new-season three-year-olds.
With showers forecast on Friday and Saturday, the track is expected to be a Soft 6, while the rail sticks to its true position for the entire circuit. The first meeting is scheduled for 12:25pm local time.
P.B. Lawrence Stakes tip: Private Eye
Private Eye is an elite 1400m operator and a perennial first-up star. He’s proven at the very top level and strikes a P.B. Lawrence that should be run to suit: genuine tempo, then quality horses fanning to the middle, where his sustained sprint excels. From barrier eight, Nash Rawiller can blend in one-off and keep him in clean air before launching from the 400m. Weight-for-age holds no fears and he brings the highest peak ratings in the field.

Vain Stakes tip: Tycoon Star
Tycoon Star brings genuine Group 1 two-year-old form to the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) — a race that often launches spring colts. He was strong through the line in the Blue Diamond series last prep and draws perfectly in barrier two to park just behind the pace. Mark Zahra knows Caulfield sprints better than most, and with the rail out they’ll want to hold a spot and quicken off the bend.

Quezette Stakes tip: The Playwright
The Playwright is the filly to beat in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m). She’s already banked serious prizemoney against strong company and is two from two at 1100m. The draw gives Blake Shinn options to tag the speed and use her turn of foot late, while the blinkers coming off should help her settle in a deep sprint that’s often run fast.

Best Bet at Caulfield: Stylish
Stylish has been ultra-consistent this prep and now finds a race where he can land midfield from barrier eight and blend into the race before the bend. His last-start win rated well for this BM84, and the Hayes yard sticks with Blake Shinn, whose patient Caulfield rides are gold when the rail is out. With pace drawn across and a soft track suiting his action, Stylish gets every chance to launch late and go back-to-back.
