Greyhounds and holidays
After a challenging 2020, you might be thinking about having a holiday away from home! GRV’s Greyhound Welfare Department wants to support all greyhound owners and carers in ensuring they get a well-earned rest this summer. If you are planning to go away, here a few tips that can help reduce the stress on both you and your greyhounds: introducing the person who will be caring for your greyhounds into the daily routines before you go away will help the greyhounds get used to their voice, movement and smell; try…
Temporary New Zealand-to-Australia Greyhound Transfer Policy introduced
New Zealand greyhound racing has recently had a widespread outbreak of kennel cough, which has had a major impact on the available racing population due to scratchings and restrictions placed on affected kennels. The disease has been caused by an organism called Mycoplasma cynos, which is a common cause of kennel cough around the world, and while particularly contagious, clinical signs in affected dogs are generally mild and dogs are responsive to treatment. There is no vaccine available. Although movement of greyhounds from New Zealand to Australia is rare, to…
Davidson family gifted sporting experiences of a lifetime
2020 has been a tough year for many, but few more so than the Davidson family from Horsham. The youngest of three teenage children, 12-year-old Kobe Davidson has been dealing with a severe cardiac condition, and as such his family have spent much of the year at Ronald McDonald House in Parkville. Ronald McDonald House is one of three charities to share in $65,000 in donations as part of GRV and Off The Bench radio’s Chase for Charity initiative in 2020. GRV Chair Peita Duncan joined Ronald McDonald House CEO…

Bobby The Brute ($51) offers the best value in the Sale Cup ‘All In’ market, according to form expert The Watchdog. Early-bird punters have until just after 7pm on Sunday to take advantage of TAB’s ‘All In’ market, in which Houdini Boy has been instilled a $3 favourite ahead of Christo Bale at $4.…
Bomb Proof needs Sale explosion
When Anthony Azzopardi scanned through the fields for Sunday’s Gold 98.3 FM Sale Cup heats (650m) he thought the Group 1 Final was being run five nights early. Azzopardi’s Cup contender Bomb Proof was drawn in a star-studded fourth heat, where he’ll face Christo Bale, brilliant winner of the Sale Distance Championship last weekend, WA star Zack Monelli and Run Like Jess. “That’s the final, isn’t it?” Azzopardi quipped. “It’s unbelievable. When I saw the field I thought they’ve decided to miss the heats and go straight into the final.…
Lakeview Cruiser set for Sale
Lakeview Cruiser has run second at his last four starts and young Metung trainer Harley Whelan fears it could be more of the same in Sunday’s Dunkley’s Machinery Rising Stars heats (440m) at Sale. Lakeview Cruiser, which is trained, owned and bred by 22-year-old Harley and his family, has won only one of his eight career starts, but he’s finished in the minor placings in the other seven, including five frustrating seconds. “He always seems to run second,” said Whelan. “It looks a bit like that might be the case…
CEO’s Monthly Update: December 2020/January 2021
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone involved in Victorian greyhound racing for how you all came together to work in a very collegiate way through what has been the most challenging year in our sport’s history.
