The 2022 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales are over, with sales in excess of $14m. They wrapped up this afternoon after the opening day at Karaka on Sunday and then three days in Christchurch – (trotters on Monday, with pacers Tuesday and Wednesday). Today was the second day of the Pacers sale and it wasn’t quite as action packed as yesterday when there was a top price of $260,000 and nearly $4m turned over, with an average price of $51,338. The top price today was the $200,000 shelled out by Cran…

The man from Manawatu spent his formative years in the outback of the harness racing world and returns as the co-trainer of one of the country’s leading stables, Lincoln Farms. “I’m back in the old stomping ground and it does feel good,” said Drake, who trains in partnership with Ray Green. Half million turnover at Harness Million Turnover for the first ever Harness Million meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday night was $520,378. Considering it was wet and windy night and only six races were held, including two with small fields, the total was seen as a reasonable, but not remarkable, result. The race that attracted the most turnover ($106,375) was the NZB Standardbred Harness Million 3YO Colts and gelding pace won by 101 -to one outsider Magic Four. In future years the Harness Million will be held on a Friday…
Manawatu treble for Dickson
By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Hunterville trainer Scott Dickson took his 10-strong team to Manawatu Raceway on Tuesday and came home with a winning treble. Dickson wasn’t surprised by the result, citing all his winners had been performing well for some time. “It doesn’t surprise you about any of them when they are all knocking on the door to do it,” Dickson said. Dickson opened his account with I Won’t Back Down taking out The Cobb Mobile Pace (2000m). “She has been waiting her turn to win one,” Dickson…

Another Group One beckons for Temporale
Caretaker trainer Brent Lilley is confident Temporale can snare more Group One glory on Australian soil, starting with the Dullard Trotters Cup at Melton on Saturday night. The nine-year-old, who has bankrolled over $700,000, has headed to Lilley’s Victorian stables on the back of two seconds behind Bolt For Brilliance at Alexandra Park and Cambridge. “We can’t fault him at home, he’s a quality horse who’s right on song,” Lilley told harnesslink.com. Trained by Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett in this country, Temporale is the winner of 25 races from…

Mangos re-unites with his stable star at Cambridge
By Michael Guerin Trainer Brent Mangos will have the rare thrill of taking his stable star South Coast Arden for a race night spin at Cambridge tonight and he looks to have found the perfect race for their reunion. Mangos and South Coast Arden will start hot favourites in the $20,000 Cambridge Classic, a race initially supposed to also contain Self Assured but his trainer Mark Purdon has decided to wait until Alexandra Park next Friday. Not that Mangos would have had to fear Self Assured because South Coast Arden…
Hughes stable out to continue hot form
By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Brian and Gareth Hughes have made a roaring start to the new season and they are hoping their golden run continues at Cambridge Raceway on Thursday. The South Auckland trainers have finished out of the money on just one occasion in their five outings to date this term and they will have strong representation once again at the Waikato meeting this week. The father-and-son duo will produce The Honey Queen in the meeting’s feature, the Barrett Homes Cambridge Classic (2200m). The Honey Queen accounted…
