Rejig for 2YO features
Two key races for the two-year-old trotters during Cup week have been re-shuffled. It’s been decided after consultation between Harness Racing New Zealand, the Sires’ Stakes Board, Addington Raceway, the Ashburton Trotting Club , key sponsors and other parties that the Lone Star Sires’ Stakes 2YO Trotters Championship (Grp 2) will move from Show Day (November 11) to November 25, and the 2YO Trotting Paremata Spa and Pool Fillies Classique will now be held at Ashburton on Thursday, November 10. That was originally scheduled for November 25. The change means…
Promising juvenile lays down the hammer on debut
By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Rocknroll Hammer made the perfect start to his racing career when taking out the Lincoln Farms Mobile Pace (1700m) at Alexandra Park on Thursday night. Driver Tony Herlihy was able to navigate the colt into an early one-one position before pressing forward to take the lead at the bell. He soon handed up to stablemate On Deadline and Rocknroll Hammer was able to enjoy the trail. Turning for home Herlihy opted to shift his charge out into the one-one once more, however, he quickly…
Stand no worries for Cheezel
By Jonny Turner A lack of recent standing start racing isn’t a concern for the camp behind the mightily consistent Cheezel ahead of Friday night’s Addington meeting. The Regan Todd trained pacer is handicapped to be one of the horses to beat when she steps out in race 8, the 2600m feature pace of the night. Already a key-player, Cheezel was to have shared the 10m with the likely favourite Franco Marek, whose scratching can only boost to her chances. Making the most of her head-start over 20m backmarkers and…
Aussie News : June 16
by Adam Hamilton Former Kiwi pacer Spirit Of St Louis may well breath a sigh of relief when he steps out at Albion Park on Saturday night. Spirit Of St Louis won’t have to deal with champion pacer and former stablemate King Of Swing. The pair clashed in two of Australia’s biggest races last campaign and although Spirit Of St Louis ran huge races both times, he played second fiddle to King Of Swing in the Hunter Cup and Miracle Mile. Now with King Of Swing retired, Spirit Of St…
Neal duo primed for Auckland
By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Cambridge trainers Andrew and Lyn Neal are heading to Alexandra Park on Thursday night confident of bold performances from both of their runners. Winner’s Time heads into the Reharvest Handicap Trot (2200m) off the back of a last start victory at Cambridge Raceway earlier this month and his trainers are hoping for a repeat performance from the son of Master Glide. “The field is not overly strong, but there are a couple of John Dickie’s that look quite good,” Lyn Neal said. “It just…
New approach with Sundees Son
Sundees Son is to undergo stem cell treatment as his connections eye up a third Dominion title with the superstar trotter in November. The reigning horse of the year is currently in the Waikato where he’s had his annual scintigraphy examination with Dr Barb Hunter at the Matamata Vet Clinic. “The result is very similar to the last two years with his off-hind fetlock needing attention,” says Sundees Son’s breeder Colin Hair, who races the horse with his wife Nancy. But this time Dr Hunter and Sundees Son’s regular vet…
