Coursing to make long-awaited return

Karen was one of the most respected people in greyhound racing, recognised for her success as a breeder, rearer and trainer. New race for the ‘battlers’
GRV and the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association are excited to announce a new race to be included in the upcoming Bendigo Cup Carnival – the Battlers Cup. The new event is aimed at creating an opportunity for the lesser performed greyhounds and the smaller and hobby type trainer, to compete for a higher stakes event and share the spotlight on a bigger stage. Prominent greyhound owner Russell Nash has passed away at age 92. Russell was introduced to greyhound racing in the 1960s through family friend Geoff Dawson, former Chair of the Sandown GRC. The first greyhound he owned was Cursorial, trained by Bill Lecky. Cursorial had a phenomenal impact as a broodmatron, producing New Mariner (1973 Melbourne Cup & National Sprint Championship), San Remo (1979 Silver Chief) and Zulu Moss (dam of champion sire Chief Dingaan). Last Friday was a moment to savour for East Shepparton trainer Marien Sullivan when her greyhound Serengeti Icon landed her first ever win at the mammoth odds of $92.20. Singapore racing postponed further
The Singapore Turf Club has announced racing will not resume until July at the earliest. While racing has or is readying to resume in many jurisdictions around the world Singapore will continue to suspend race meetings in alignment with the government’s phased approach to resumption of activities. The Club will evaluate throughout June whether it is able to stage meetings at Kranji starting in early July. Singapore has implemented one of the strictest lockdowns worldwide after a second Covid-19 wave swept through the small nation.
