Coursing season to open at full capacity

Coursing in 2020 is off to a promising start with a full card of 12 events to begin the season at Lang Lang on Sunday. A barnstorming run from Weblec Haze has seen the powerful greyhound take out last night’s Gr8 Eight event at The Meadows. Trained by Jeff Britton, the son of Barcia Bale and Weblec Belle showed off his monster engine when swooping around his rivals to win the 600m event in 34.31sec. As the ‘midnight hour’ of winter’s start approaches, Sale trainer Chris Tilley had a day to remember today. He won the Healesville Derby (350m) with Midnight Monarch (presentation above), and around two and a half hours later Wake The Dragon ($13.80) took out a Restricted Win (440m) at Sale. Victorian greyhounds raised $6,000 for the Police Legacy Remembrance Fund during May. Every time a greyhound wearing the blue number four rug won a race at The Meadows or Sandown throughout the month of May, GRV donated $250 to the fund in honour of the four fallen police officers who lost their lives in a tragic crash on Melbourne’s Easter Freeway on 22 April.
