Cats & Fastnet at ‘full mast’?

Cats’ fans could be ‘sailing away’ with tomorrow night’s AFL/Greys offer from TAB. The betting giant’s $4.00 proposition is Geelong to defeat the Sydney Swans at the SCG and rising star Aston Fastnet to be at ‘full mast’ at The Meadows. The Cats – who gave the Eagles a 97pts licking last week – are 4th on the AFL ladder with four wins from six games, while the Swans – who were eclipsed by 40pts to the Suns – are 5th, also with four wins. Meanwhile, the Jason Thompson-trained Aston…

Freda ready to ‘rock’ Bracelet

Rob Camilleri loves a challenge and that’s a very good thing after the Lara mentor recently took over training the immensely talented but enigmatic Freda Rocks. To paraphrase a well-known nursery rhyme, when Freda Rocks is good, she is very, very good but when she is bad she can be horrid, as her form will attest. Freda Rocks, which was trained by Mario Briganti until he suffered a severe hand injury, has won four of her 17 starts, the most recent a runaway 9.75 length 29.30sec (Best) romp at Sandown…

Playlist to inflict Wentworth Park ‘Payne’

Anthony Azzopardi is taking star kennel newcomer Playlist back to the scene of his greatest triumph in Saturday night’s heats of the Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint (520m) in Sydney. Last July, when trained by Matt Clark, Playlist won the G1 Vic Peters Classic, upstaging an all-star field that featured his multiple Group-winning litter brother Catch The Thief, Tommy Shelby and Houdini Boy. Playlist was recently transferred to Azzopardi and has had two starts for the champion ex-NSW mentor, winning first-up at The Meadows in a fast 29.82sec and then…

Doggies and Durden ‘barking’?

Has TAB gone ‘barking mad’ with tonight’s AFL/Greys offer? The betting giant is offering $3.40 about the Western Bulldogs defeating Richmond in a Round 7 blockbuster and talented Tyler Durden winning at Bendigo greyhounds. You ‘can’t beat the boys of the Bulldog breed’ at present. So, TAB’s cross-sports proposition is sure to attract plenty of interest from the ‘Sons of the West’! The undefeated Doggies are on top of the AFL ladder with six wins, while the ‘Dusty’-less Tigers are seventh with three wins. Meanwhile, the Angela Langton-trained Tyler Durden…

QUINTESSENTIAL QUINTANA

The Watchdog is tipping stereotypical young star Quintana Bale to be ‘true to type’ at Geelong. A serious talent, she’s won nine from 18 (50%) and was a finalist in the Lil Dickie Oaks (2nd) and Warrnambool Oaks (3rd). “Four runs back, she recorded a brilliant 25.05sec Warrnambool win and a similar performance can see her score again,” he said. But the expert form analyst rates ageless veteran Speed Star, who is contesting his 106th start, as the obvious danger. He’s a three-time G2 finalist and has won 44 races,…

How The Watchdog would spend $50 on TAB’s ‘All In’ market

Form expert The Watchdog is pulling on the leash ahead of Thursday night’s eight sensational heats of the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup (450m). TAB has installed superstar Shima Shine as $4.80 favourite in ‘All In’ betting, ahead of Equalizer, trained by five-time Warrnambool Cup winner Jason Thompson, and Ballarat and Shepparton Cup hero Ferdinand Boy, both at $6.50. Since brilliantly winning the Horsham Cup in March, Shima Shine has been beaten at odds-on in the heats of (in order) the Golden Easter Egg, Ballarat Cup and Perth Cup and The…

Thompson’s ‘fab four’ for Warrnambool

To say Jason Thompson has an affinity with the Group 2 Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Cup (450m) would be a massive understatement. The champion Pearcedale trainer boasts five Cup victories, courtesy of El Galo (2008), Hanify’s Impact (2009), Ronan Izmir (2013), Black Magic Opal (2014) and last year with Zambora Smokey. With four frontline contenders in Thursday night’s heats – (in heat order) Catch The Thief, Zambora Lou, Equalizer and Aussie Secret – Thompson is striving to add to his impressive Warrnambool Cup collection and go back-to-back for the third time.…

Richmond joins straight track ranks

NSW was welcomed into Australian greyhound racing’s straight track fraternity – which already included Victoria, Queensland and South Australia – when Richmond hosted the state’s first ever TAB straight track meeting on Saturday morning. It was the first meeting held on a straight track in NSW since October 18, 2014 at Appin. “I didn’t think I would ever see it,” said Richmond GRC President Peter Rodgers. “It started off just a slipping track. But you’ve got to remember this is new for old. “The old track used to go up…
