Champion Shima a ‘Shining’ Diamond
Superstar Shima Shine shone brightest in the inaugural Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter Final (500m) at Bendigo on Friday night, dominating an all-star cast to claim the $75,000 winner’s purse for trainer Andrea Dailly and owner/breeders David Gleeson and Bob Cummings. The victory took the dual Group 1 winner’s earnings past $700,000, while Gleeson heaped praise on the Pink Diamond concept as he and great friend Cummings also pocketed an $11,250 breeder’s bonus. “Fantastic. He did what we wanted him to do and he was just too good for them,” a…
Five Star is ‘Diamond’ distance class!
Staying revelation Five Star enhanced his first-class reputation over the longer journey with a high-end display in tonight’s $75,000 to-the-winner Pink Diamond Champion Distance final (660m). Trained at Parwan by Paul Abela, Five Star (March ’19 Fernando Bale x Got One Back) pinged the lids from box seven and that was the last they saw of him. In fact, once he jumped to the front it was game, set, match. He led them a merry dance! Five Star ($2.50F) defeated My Father’s Son ($32.70) by 5.6L, with Mepunga Warrior ($3.50)…
It’s no Secret, Aussie is a ‘flawless’ Diamond!
Make no secret, Aussie Secret is an ‘eight carat’ sprinter. Prepared by master Pearcedale trainer Jason Thompson, Aussie Secret was considered drawn ‘inside out’ in tonight’s $75,000 to-the-winner Pink Diamond Short Course Sprinter final (425m) at Bendigo. But strangely, for a greyhound preferred drawn out wide, he notched his fifth win from eight starts from box one. In fact, Aussie Secret left his ‘diamond-cut’ rivals – including ‘next big thing’ and dual country cups winner Ferdinand Boy, two-time G1 finalist Shima Classic, dual track record holder Oriental Amber and short-course…
Condon eyes “special” Healesville success
Healesville’s number one trainer Dave Condon says winning Sunday afternoon’s Puppy Championship final (300m) with track specialist Aston Bel Air, winner of her last three starts up the straight, would be extra special. “This one is really close to my heart because I trained her mother (Aston Lelani) for Ray Borda too,” Condon said. “Ray said he would make sure I got a couple of her pups to train and I got to pre-train the whole litter. I’m really thankful for the opportunity because it keeps the generations going and…
Blues & Qwara “never let you down”?
New ‘sprint queen’ Qwara Bale “never lets you down”. But will it be “the famous old dark Blues”? Carlton fans will be hoping so when they take on the GWS Giants tonight. TAB is “with all the champions” offering $5.50 for the Blues to lose by eight point or less – or even win – against the Giants and Qwara Bale to reign supreme at The Meadows. “And they’ll (TAB) know that they’ve been playing” – and paying – if both get up! Both teams are having somewhat disappointing seasons…
Carter’s concerns for ‘Special’ Talent
Astute Kialla trainer Michael Carter concedes an unfortunate combination of illness and injury that has seen Special Talent sidelined for the best part of a year could prevent the classy speedster from living up to his name. Special Talent missed five months in 2020 due to kidney problems and the son of Fernando Bale has had two starts back after sitting out another five months with a knee injury, with wins at Shepparton and The Meadows boosting his impressive record to 13 from 29. He ran second to Yozo Bale…

Over the journey he spent five years as president, nine as vice-president, 10 as senior team manager and canteen manager. When he died late last year the tributes flowed. And, at Bendigo on Friday night the tributes will continue in the final of the Pink Diamond greyhound series of events across regional Victoria. Yankee a dandy Diamond fancy: The Watchdog
Form expert The Watchdog is tipping a huge upset in Friday night’s first ever Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter final (500m) at Bendigo, boldly selecting Andrea Dailly’s Gypsy Yankee against three of the biggest names in greyhound racing. The headline acts in the Champion Sprinter showdown are joint $2.50 favourites Shima Shine (box 1) and Aston Rupee (2) along with Catch The Thief (3) at $5.50 but the Watchdog believes the inside boxes may bring the superstar trio undone. “To be honest they all look poorly drawn,” said the Watchdog. “There’s…
