New Traralgon greyhound track a spark for region
Excitement is visible as works at the new Traralgon greyhound track approach completion. At a briefing this morning greyhound racing officials said the construction of the new world-first J-curve track had injected much needed income into the local community. The $5 million redevelopment of the track and club facilities – comprised of the recently announced State Government’s $3 million to supplement Greyhound Racing Victoria’s $2 million funding – will be increasingly available to local community groups. Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club Manager, Steven Clarke said the new track design, inspired by…
‘Ferdinand’ a flying machine!
That ‘magnificent man’ and his ‘flying machine’! Yes, Lara-based trainer David Geall’s “frightfully keen” Ferdinand Boy was once again “looping the loop and defying the ground”. Last night, Ferdinand Boy ‘stole all the scenes’ in a record-breaking romp over 385 metres at Shepparton. Ferdinand Boy clocked a fairly flying 21.31sec – slicing three-quarters of a length off the 21.35sec previous mark, set by Oriental Amber on April 19 this year. The ‘dashing daredevil’ also established a 24.75sec track record over 450m claiming this year’s Group 2 Shepparton Cup on March…
Equalizer follows sister’s Cup lead
Sprinting powerhouse Equalizer is on target to complete what would be an extremely rare – if not unprecedented – back-to-back G1 family double in Thursday night’s $250,000 to-the-winner Brisbane Cup final (520m) at Albion Park. In 2020 Equalizer’s older half-sister Black Opium, also trained by champion mentor Jason Thompson and bred and raced by the See The Dream syndicate, comprising cousins Serge and Bill Buccilli, was a near-record 29.44sec winner of the Cup. “It’d be a really good effort if Equalizer does win, especially for the mother (Captivating),” said Thompson,…

Replay Will Aussie Secret get near Warragul’s 22.07sec track record? A great battle looms…

‘Doctor’ sits on the Tuckerbox
Dr. Tucker, metaphorically speaking, deserves to sit alongside the historical ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’ monument at Snake Gully, just outside of Gundagai in NSW. Trained by William McMahon at Darriman in Gippsland, Dr. Tucker displays the same courage, diligence and tenacity as the quintessential Australian cattle dog or heeler so intrinsically aligned with our nation’s early pioneers. Dr. Tucker, a son of McMahon’s former classy sprinter Bernardo, has been in sensational form since returning from five months on the sidelines due to a hock injury. In fact, he’s won five…
