GRV and the Greyhound Owners Trainers and Breeders Association of Victoria Inc (GOTBA Vic), with the assistance of the Office of Racing, have agreed to enter an independent mediation process. Mediation is pursued to attempt to resolve matters of ongoing importance and concern underlying recent industrial action by Victorian greyhound participants. It will be conducted with the assistance of a mediator, Mr Tim Lyons. GRV and GOTBA jointly acknowledge that it is in the interests of the sport and the people, that the process is entered into in good faith,…

Christo & Tigers ‘purring’?
There’ll be plenty of ‘fur’ flying between the Tigers and the Lions tonight. So, who will come out ‘purring’? TAB has entered the battle of the ‘big cats’ with a tempting AFL/Greys offer sure to give the ‘Tiger tribe’ back some voice. The betting behemoth is offering $3.50 on Richmond losing by 18pts or less – or even winning – against Brisbane and champ Christo Bale scoring at Geelong greyhounds. Richmond is 12th on the AFL ladder with seven wins, while Brisbane is fourth with 11 wins. Last week, the…
Jungle drums are beating!
Tackling interstate G1 events is hard enough but just getting NSW sensation Jungle Deuce to the boxes for Saturday night’s Maturity Classic heats (525m) at The Meadows has been a challenge for easy-going Forbes trainer Ray Smith. Jungle Deuce, the winner of 13 of his 20 starts, highlighted by the G2 Flying Amy Classic in Brisbane last month, is one of only three interstate Maturity contenders, another being his kennelmate Miss Ezmae. The superbly-related son of 2012 Maturity winner Barcia Bale and Serena Fly High, making him a half-brother to…
Daily Mail: Christo’s crown under threat?
After defending his G2 McKenna Memorial title at Sandown Park last week, middle distance superstar Christo Bale will headline Friday night’s Geelong meeting in a ‘must watch’ clash with up-and-comer Mepunga Ruby (7 from 11). Both are in ‘white hot’ form, with Christo Bale (28 from 65) having won 8 of his past 10, while the lightly-raced Mepunga Ruby has won 5 on end. There’ll also be no place to hide when prolific speedster Fortuna Bale (27 from 62 – 6 from 12 Box 1) takes on former Ballarat 450m…
Traralgon ‘Participant Day’ postponed
Following the State Government’s announcement of a five day lockdown in Victoria – effective from 11.59pm on Thursday 15 July – Monday’s scheduled ‘Participant Day’ at Traralgon has been postponed. A replacement date will be determined when safe to do so. GRV and Traralgon GRC look forward to being able to invite participants to view the new track in the near future.
Fortune’s no ‘Fool’
Fate has treated Fortune’s Fool badly in luck. No, I’m not reciting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. I refer to a greyhound – named metaphorically after the “Bard of Avon’s” Romeo character – that won’t accept ‘banishment’ from the racetrack. Bred, owned and trained by Maddison ‘Maddi’ Toner, 22, Fortune’s Fool (Feb ’19 Mepunga Blazer x Bel Air Mist) finally got his ‘fame’ – all 25 seconds of it – in a Maiden heat (440m) at Sale last Sunday. Fortune’s Fool, who is 29 months old, was making his race debut…

Daily Mail: Rebellious the hottest ticket in town
‘Next big thing’ Rebellious (8 from 10) is a young ‘rebel with a cause’. He’s a “star prospect”, according to form expert The Watchdog. And who would disagree! Only 23 months old, the Jason Thompson-trained flier won The Prospector in a near-TR 23.42sec after finishing third in the Pink Diamond Rookie Short Course – both over 425m at Bendigo. He’s also won 3 from 3 over 400m (22.28sec PB) at Warragul and, daringly defiant, steps up tonight to its 460m trip chasing six wins from his past seven starts. The…
Industry Update : Harrowing Review
GRV, in conjunction with Greyhound Clubs Victoria, is announcing a review into the ‘Harrowing’ practises undertaken at Clubs across Victoria. The current practise of ‘Harrowing’ greyhound racing tracks is an ongoing maintenance process aimed at producing a consistent racing and trialling surface. It is intended that the review will seek input from Clubs including club track staff, participants and key stakeholders. The existing GRV policy will be reviewed to support the structured approach on track maintenance and preparation. It is intended that the review will be completed by early September.…
Daily Mail: Future stars on show
A fascinating Restricted Win Final over 450m is among the highlights tonight at Shepparton featuring Beretta Boy (3 from 5 Trk/Dst) v Invictus Jaxson (25.18sec PB) v Studley (2 from 3 Box 4) v Pure Quality (multiple city winner). Invictus Jaxson is The Watchdog’s top pick, while another who should be respected is G1-bred Alfie Alligator (Barcia Bale x Maja Mahi Mahi), who has won 4 from 9. Meanwhile, it’s hard to ‘imagine’ one of The Watchdog’s ‘Bets of the Day’, Visualiser (6 from 13), not winning on this program.…
