‘Saint’ Koblenz?

St Kilda fans won’t hesitate to ‘march in’ to a ‘saintly’ AFL/Greys offer from TAB tonight. The betting giant’s cross-sports proposition is $2.50 for the Saints to defeat the Blues and excitement machine Koblenz claiming a G3 Warragul St Leger heat. St Kilda is 12th on the AFL ladder with eight wins from 18 matches, while Carlton are 13th with seven wins. Last week, the Saints lost to the West Coast Eagles by 8pts while the Blues lost to the Kangaroos by 39pts. Meanwhile, ‘next big thing’ Koblenz dominates proceedings…

Petit ‘Sweet’ for Meadows success

Talented speedster Sweet Petit has had to overcome a nightmare run of box draws to win seven of her 23 starts, highlighted by the lucrative Pink Diamond Princess series in June. Sweet Petit has done it the hard way, with the daughter of Fabregas and Gold Vein, trained by Daryl Holmes and raced by the Holmes family’s ‘Shiraz Racing’ syndicate, having only drawn inside box five in one of her last 16 starts. During that period she’s drawn Box 5 on five occasions, Box 8 and Box 7 four times…

Bobby’s ‘brutish’ racing return

Three-time Group placegetter Bobby The Brute has been making up for lost time since returning from an injury-enforced six-month stint on the sidelines. Trained by Brendan Pursell at Lara, Bobby The Brute, the winner of 13 from 44, is chasing his fifth win from his past six starts at The Meadows on Saturday night in Race 8, a FFA (525m) to be run at 9.02pm. However, that purple patch stretches back to January, when the son of KC And All and She’s Scandalous claimed back-to-back 600m successes at The Meadows,…

Brilliant winner of the G3 Speed Star last month, Aston Rupee (10 from 19 – 2 from 2 Box 3 – 29.06sec PB) returns to Sandown in a strong Grade 5, where his opposition includes last start G1 Australian Cup finalist Hill Top Jack (13 from 30 – 3 from 5 Trk/Dst) and Shadow Mist (27 from 65 – 6 from 9 Box 2), which drops back to 515m…

Utah Ghost’s Straight Track ‘Spirit’

Utah Ghost’s sensational transition to straight track racing has come as a huge relief to young Lara trainer Tim Britton. A wrist injury had made racing around bends problematic for Utah Ghost, a litter brother to Britton’s G1 Australian Cup finalist Utah Blues, but an expedition to Healesville has breathed new life into the superbly related son of Barcia Bale x Utah Miss’ career. Utah Ghost is unbeaten in two flying victories at Healesville and is the fastest qualifier for Sunday afternoon’s Victorian Straight Championship final (350m), where a mouth-watering…

‘Department of Youth’ has St Leger ‘power’

The G3 Warragul St Leger heats (460m) – featuring many of the state’s elite young sprinters on Friday night – are already giving off G1-like vibes! And among the ‘Department of Youth’ is recent G1 Maturity Classic winner Qwara Bale. But has the G1 Sapphire Crown and G2 Warrnambool Cup winner ‘got the power’ again? Qwara Bale (Box 7) – one of 10 heat runners for ‘Team Dailly’ – lines up in Heat 3 (Race 8, 9.33pm). Incredibly, she’s $4.20 on TAB fixed odds to win her heat and $6.50…

Victorian greyhound racing to benefit from landmark US commingling deal

Broadcasting of Australian greyhound races into America is set to become more financially beneficial, thanks to new commingling arrangements brokered by Tabcorp and Sky Racing. Victorian greyhound races and those from other Australian jurisdictions have been broadcast into North America via Tabcorp’s international broadcasting channel, Sky Racing World, since June last year, and this new arrangement will now see American punters betting directly into Tabcorp’s Australian pools from this week. According to Tabcorp, the new deal is expected to further enhance the popularity of Australian greyhound racing with North American…

Daily Mail: Gwen looks good at The Meadows!

Five-time Group finalist Aston Gwen is the headline act at The Meadows on Wednesday afternoon, while at Ballarat’s meeting Interrogate will put the ‘hard questions’ to prolific speedster Zipping Zarbo. Versatile G2 Laurels heroine Aston Gwen (18 from 63 – 5 from 13 Trk/Dst) has been mixing distances at The Meadows with great effect and after finding star speedster Fernando Bluey too slippery last week  today’s assignment looks ideal. Talented youngster Curator (2 from 5) will make his first appearance at The Meadows, having sped around Sandown Park in 29.30sec…

Greyhound racing to continue without crowds

Victorian greyhound racing will maintain its current status of allowing essential persons only on-course at ALL race meetings and trial sessions around the state until further advice is received from the Chief Health Officer. While the Victorian Government announced the lifting of the state-wide lockdown at 11.59pm tonight, GRV’s decision to continue without crowds falls into line with other sporting codes including the AFL. As such, the following protocols remain in place: – Health screening / pre-entry temperature testing will continue – QR code sign in remains mandatory – Social…

Greyhound Clubs Australia (GCA), in conjunction with the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) and GRV (GRV), has made the decision to cancel the Grand Finals of the 2021 National Sprint and National Distance Championships. Both Group 1 events were scheduled to be held at The Meadows on Saturday 28 August but continued COVID-19 related concerns and the recent detection of canine coronavirus in New Zealand has seen the organisers left with little option but to abandon plans amid a constantly evolving setting. GCA Chairman, Mr Les Bein said the decision…
