Share A Dream can take his comeback story to another level with victory in one of Sunday’s Southern Surge Finals at Gore.
It was only in March that the pacer’s chances of making it back to the track were up in the air. Share A Dream showed promise early in his career in Canterbury before spending around 14 months away from the races through injury.
But during a whirlwind last couple of months, the five-year-old has raced through the grades under the care of trainer Tyler Dewe.
But it hasn’t happened without a few head-scratching moments along the way.
“When I was asked to take him, they’d had a nice opinion of him and he’d shown a lot of speed,” Dewe said.
“We took him along slowly and when he got to the trials that he showed us that.”
“But we ran into a few issues, with things like his gait and his breathing, and we were scratching our heads and wondering about his future.”
“But we persevered and tried a few things and he has just gotten better and better.”
“His confidence has been on the up and I think that has helped a lot with the issues he has had.”
Anyone who has watched Share A Dream should know his best asset is his speed.
He’s been driven accordingly by Mark Hurrell in his recent wins and that is unlikely to change in Race 10, the Bid On Gavehouse Southern Surge Final Mobile Pace (4.54pm). He’s a $2.70 favourite.
“It is all going to be tempo and tactics related, he could possibly run a slashing fifth.”
“I don’t think I could have him any better, his last start win was great but I think he is better again now.”
“He ran some great sectionals at the workouts last weekend and I couldn’t really be any happier with him.”
Dewe will also start Lil Whip in one of Sunday’s Southern Surge Finals.
Similar to her stablemate Share A Dream, the mare has charged through the grades over winter with some slick victories.
Lil Whip was beaten fairly and squarely by race rival Emily in their heat clash at Ascot Park.
But it did come on the back of a freshen up.
“She should strip a lot fitter this week, I have had her for eight months and she worked the best she has had for me this week.”
“She had a good excuse there last start because she was fresh up.”
“She has been getting away quick and fast and hopefully she can do the same again because you can’t afford to take a backward step against Bring On The Muscle.”
Artmore is also among Dewe’s Southern Surge squad.
The pacer disappointed in her last heat run at Ascot Park when eighth, but her two prior thirds were solid.
