He burst through to win on a Heavy 10 at Wangaratta before a narrow second in BM64 grade on Soft 7, and the drop back to BM58 with barrier 3 looks tailor-made. He maps to land just behind the pace for Rhys McLeod, with blinkers now declared this prep to sharpen him again. On rain-affected ground, he owns the best recent figures in the race, and a genuine tempo should bring his turn of foot right into play. With a soft map and race fitness, he’s the one to beat.

Above Me showed plenty on debut, sitting handy and boxing on for third at Seymour (1000m, Soft 7). The four-year-old mare now steps to 1100m and draws to blend in behind the speed for Beau Mertens. Her jump-outs indicate she’s tractable, and a Soft deck is no negative given her first-up run. With multiple pace angles engaged, this should set up for a stalk-and-pounce pattern, and she profiles to improve second-time at the races. Above Me should be getting favourite punters off to a winning start.

Best Value at Wodonga: Annotate
Lightly raced and progressive, Annotate resumes in the 1100m BM58 with a big claim and a soft map. He broke his maiden on Soft 7 at Bendigo and returns off a sharp Seymour jump-out, drawing gate 4 to stalk the speed. With apprentice Thomas Spillane engaged, he gets weight relief against exposed sprinters, and momentum building from the 600m suits Wodonga when the inside chops up. If he lands one-off with cover, he can peel and sustain a run through the line. In a race lacking depth beyond a couple of older geldings, Annotate appeals to go straight on with it.
