Already boasting an impressive win at her only start, the local hope will be “up for the fight”, according to trainer Jon O’Connor. “Obviously there are some big stables represented, with high-priced young horses, but you just don’t know about the unraced…

Profiteer ‘in great nick’ after Lightning Stakes mishap

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around with the speedy Profiteer in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday. The son of Capitalist was part of a red-hot Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) field last start when resuming from a break. Things didn’t go as connections would have hoped on that occasion, though. The Cranbourne-trained colt caused havoc in the race after laying in sharply soon after the gates opened, impeding race-favourite Nature Strip and almost causing the Cliff Brown-trained…

Punt Drunk: Bring on Nature Strip vs Eduardo

Rain, rain, and more rain. That has been the flavour of the week, so we head into another Saturday with some doubt over whether or not the meetings at Doomben and Randwick will go ahead. How much more can the Sunshine Coast Polytrack cop? Chautauqua returned to her winning ways, while a battle of the giants is just one sleep away. GIVE IT A REST This is an interesting one, this. Less than 12 months ago, Racing Queensland announced a contingency plan that would see rain-affected tracks and South-East Queensland…

ATC Foundation commits $200k to NSW flood relief

The Australian Turf Club (ATC) Foundation has committed to donating $50,000 towards racing industry participants and race clubs that have been affected by the ongoing flood emergency in New South Wales. On top of the $50,000 donation, the ATC Foundation will also distribute $150,000 across equine and charitable organisations while working closely with Racing NSW to find ‘practical’ uses for the donation. The $200,000-worth of donations have been raised within the racing industry and through ATC customers on Sydney racecourses. Since the inception of the ATC Foundation in 2018, over…

Gavelhouse graduate in search of massive payday

Well In Sight’s (Shalaa) journey to Flemington is in no way your standard tale of a bush horse making it to the big smoke. Mitch Beer’s unbeaten filly will contest the A$750,000 Inglis Sprint on Saturday after three wins at Albury but, before she even made it to the races, she’s been sold twice, changed trainers and had been shipped across the Tasman with the intention of heading to China. “We bought her on gavelhouse.com for NZ$21,000, but she was originally an A$170,000 yearling,” Beer began of the horse’s back…

Impressive son of Almanzor not for sale

Bulls trainer Raymond Connors has posted the not for sale sign on promising juvenile Trav after the son of Almanzor closed too well for his rivals to score by a neck from Havarti in the Milton Park Stables 2YO (1200m) at Awapuni on Friday. The Connors family bred and own the smart debut winner, who had previously trialled well when third at Foxton. Ridden by Sarah Macnab, Trav settled back on the fence and was angled off the rail before the home turn before proving too slick for Havarti and…

Savabeel at the peak of his powers in Karaka countdown

Waikato Stud’s seven leading vendor titles at Karaka since 2014 have been underpinned by relentless demand for the progeny of Savabeel, and the all-conquering sire’s remarkable run of racetrack results this season has the respected nursery confident of another big sale in 2022. A permanent fixture at the top of Karaka’s leading sires by aggregate since 2014, Savabeel continues to go from strength to strength and boasts statistics this season that tower over all others on both sides of the Tasman. Savabeel is Australasia’s leading sire this season of stakes…
