Tarzino 3YO makes perfect start
Promising three-year-old Te Toki (NZ) (Tarzino) made an emphatic start to his career when successful at Taupo on Wednesday in the Ribchester @ Haunui Farm 1300m. The much-hyped son of Tarzino had impressed in all three of his trials over the past 10 months and duly backed it up on raceday when winning by in excess of six lengths. Prepared by Simon and Katrina Alexander, the Matamata couple, who own equity in the smart youngster, admitted there had been plenty of offshore interest in the gelding dating back to December…
Derby trial awaits Rhinoceros
David and Emma-Lee Browne’s purple patch of form has continued in Australia with Rhinoceros (NZ) (Vadamos) adding to their burgeoning record with his maiden win at Sandown on Wednesday. The three-year-old colt began like a bullet from barrier two to take an early lead in his mile contest, which he maintained throughout to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Jockey Jordan Childs had ridden the son of Vadamos in his previous two starts, including a runner-up effort at Sale last month, and he was pleased to see his charge do everything right…
Group One return for Johnny Get Angry
Kiwi-bred Johnny Get Angry (NZ) (Tavistock) will have his first Group One hit-out since winning the Victoria Derby (2500m) last year when he lines-up in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. The Tavistock gelding beat just one runner home when first-up in the Gr.3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) last month in what trainer and part-owner Denis Pagan labelled as a glorified trial. “The Aurie’s Star was virtually another trial the way it turned out,” Pagan told Racing.com. “He was very rusty after the Aurie’s Star, he had…
Kwok’s growing investment paying dividends
It’s been a memorable week Ben Kwok. The Singapore-based breeder-owner celebrated a handful of stakes victories, including Bellaconte (NZ) (Burgundy) winning the Listed O’Learys Fillies Stakes (1200m) at Wanganui on Saturday for trainer Chrissy Bambry. He also enjoyed watching Pure Imagination (NZ) (Darci Brahma) winning on debut for trainer Jamie Richards just an hour prior at Te Rapa. To cap his pleasing weekend, Flotus (Starspangledbanner), a filly he shares in the ownership, won the Listed Ripon Champion 2YO Trophy (1200m) in England. While pleased with his results on the track,…

By Dave Di Somma, Harness News Desk It’s going to be a big few days for Carl Markham. On Sunday Methven holds its first grass track meeting of the new season, and it will be his first as Methven Trotting Club president. And it comes just two days after his 60th birthday. Certainly the milestone is not going to go unnoticed. Race 9 is the “Big Bad Carl’s” Big Celebration Handicap Trot, and the field for it includes his own two-win trotter DD’s Super Stuart, who will be driven by…

Daily Mail: Koblenz to bounce back at Cranbourne
After five straight defeats, sprint sensation Koblenz (17 from 29 – 3 from 3 Box 1) should return to the winners list in style when he headlines Wednesday’s Cranbourne card. David Geall’s superbly-bred speed machine created headlines with a dazzling 11-race winning streak but has filled minor placings in his last five starts, albeit in elite company against the likes of Aston Rupee, Aston Fastnet and Mr. Fix It. While Koblenz is yet to salute in two visits to Cranbourne during the G3 Classic series, The Watchdog is expecting him…

But General Dodge’s 14 wins and a stunning recent Melton trial have everyone brimming with excitement about his return to racing in the $100,000 Group 1 VHRC Caduceus Classic (1650m) at Bendigo on Saturday night. In that August 23 Melton…
