Late Sistema bid for Fonsalette
Group One plans weren’t originally on the cards for Fonsalette (NZ) (Belardo) this weekend, but that all changed earlier this week when the nominations came out for the Gr.1 Sistema Stakes (1200m). The juvenile feature had attracted just four nominations, and with Group One honours on the line trainer Stephen Marsh elected to enter his promising filly. “It wasn’t a race that was on our radar,” Marsh said. “We were going to run on Wednesday at Matamata and then go to the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m), but when…
Harris excited about Group One duo
Despite being booked for only two rides, Saturday’s Auckland Cup meeting at Ellerslie has the potential to be a special day in the saddle for Troy Harris. The 32-year-old has recorded six Group One victories in his riding career, and he has two strong chances to add to that tally this weekend. Harris will ride Sound, the $3.50 favourite for the Gr.1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup (3200m), while dual New Zealand Horse of the Year Melody Belle is the $2.50 second favourite in the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes…

Telfer treble at Cambridge
By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Steve and Amanda Telfer loved a pattern at Cambridge on Thursday night. Not only did the brother-sister duo secure a winning treble, but their silks also finished third in each of those races as well. Debutant Allamericanlover kicked off the night for the South Auckland trainers with a win in the Black Dog Furniture Mobile Pace (2200m). The American Ideal filly began strongly, albeit greenly, from her wide gate to take an early lead for driver Benjamin Butcher. They held out the challenge…

Artorius shines in crucial Slipper hitout
Blue Diamond Stakes winner Artorius will be paid up for the Golden Slipper on Monday following a sizzling barrier trial performance at Randwick. Having his first serious test in the Sydney direction, the youngster was eased back to last by Luke Currie as eventual heat winner Harley Street skipped away to a commanding lead. Currie revved him up around the corner and Artorius lengthened impressively, motoring down the outside and making up many lengths to finish a narrow second. Brad Taylor, racing manager for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman, said…
