Heavenly Dancer looking to maintain winning run

Heavenly Dancer (NZ) (Echoes of Heaven) will be out to keep his unbeaten record intact when he steps out at Kranji in a Class 4 event on Sunday. The four-year-old son of Echoes of Heaven won on debut in March and returned in September to make it two wins from two starts. Trainer Stephen Gray has been mindful not to rush the promising gelding and has freshened him up since his last start.  “Heavenly Dancer is a nice horse going forward,” he said. “I thought of running him in Class…

Polly Grey on Gold hunt

The Chris Waller-trained Polly Grey (NZ) (Azamour) is yet to chalk up a win in Australia since crossing the Tasman earlier this year but will look to set that right in Saturday’s Gr.2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m). The former Kylie Fawcett-trained charge has performed well this preparation, finishing in the top five of all but one of her seven starts including a runner-up finish in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) in July. Waller indicated the predicted showers would enhance the chances of Polly Grey at Moonee Valley, with…

Tokorangi primed for Soliloquy

Three-year-old filly Tokorangi (NZ) (Redwood) will sport different colours when she steps out in the Gr.3 Waikato Stud Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) at Te Rapa on Saturday for trainers Michael Moroney and Pam Gerard. Australian owner Ozzie Kheir has bought into the smart Redwood filly, who came from well back in the Gr.3 Hawke’s Bay Breeders’ Gold Trail Stakes (1400m) to finish a luckless fourth, deprived of racing room in the concluding stages. Jockey Michael McNab will have his second ride on the filly on Saturday and Gerard believes he will…

Group Two target for Coventina Bay

Coventina Bay’s picket fence form line may have been disrupted with a first-up fourth-placing at Te Rapa earlier this month, but trainer Robbie Patterson believes she can return to her winning ways at the Hamilton track this weekend. The five-year-old mare will contest the Beefeater Garden Bar 12/12 1400 and Patterson said she will appreciate the step-up in distance. “Only In Jakarta got away with soft sectionals in the front (last start), which made it impossible for us to pick her up,” Patterson said. “But it was a top run,…

The strength of Ben Foote’s hand in next month’s Gr.1 Barneswood Farm 48th New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton will become clearer after racing this weekend. TAB bookmakers have Babylon Berlin at $12 and Vitesse Bo at $31 for the 1000 Guineas on November 14. “Babylon Berlin has shown she’s…
