Zed mare ready to shine in New Zealand Cup

Improving staying mare Robusto (NZ) (Zed) will be the sole runner for the in-form Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman team at Riccarton this weekend, when she contests the Gr.3 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup (3200m). The daughter of Zed was a comfortable winner of the Listed Metropolitan Trophy (2500m) last Saturday and her trainers see no reason why she can’t repeat the dose this weekend. “All she has to do is back up and reproduce that performance a week later,” Forsman said. “She seems bright and well and in great…

Three-pronged Awapuni assault for McKay

Matamata trainer Peter McKay will take three horses south to Awapuni’s meeting on Friday, including Group One winner The Mitigator (Master of Design). As a result of track conditions, McKay has elected to bypass the Listed Gartshore Tauranga Stakes (1600m) with the son of Master Of Design in favour of the Robertson Prestige/Humphries Construction 1550 at Awapuni. “We are a bit disappointed,” McKay said. “We had a lot of rain come through for Tauranga, hence why we couldn’t start there in the weight-for-age. “We gave him a nice trial at…

1000 Guineas raid for Tokorangi

Talented filly Tokorangi (NZ) (Redwood) headed to Christchurch on Thursday morning ahead of a tilt at the Gr.1 Barneswood Farm New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on Saturday for trainers Michael Moroney and Pam Gerard. The daughter of Redwood charged into third in the Gr.3 Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) last start behind De La Terre and gives the impression the step-up in distance will be right up her alley. Like a number of the northern raiders in Saturday’s fillies feature, Tokorangi flew to Christchurch late in the piece and Moroney…

Cracker needs to find Dominion spark

By Jonny Turner Oamaru trotter Cracker Hill has raised more questions than he has answered leading in his final lead up event into Friday’s group 1 Dominion at Addington. Trainer-driver Brad Williamson handed his four-year-old a perfect run in the trial in Tuesday’s New Zealand Trotting Free-For-All, which had his backers waiting eagerly for him to let down with a winning finish. But Cracker Hill’s finish peaked well short of expectations and he was caught and easily passed by Heavyweight Hero. Williamson does not want to take anything away from…

Two-wave boxing process to be reinstated

Victorian greyhound racing will revert back to the two-wave boxing process from 8am on Tuesday 10 November, 2020. The four-wave boxing process was one of many risk controls put in place since in April to ensure greyhound racing could continue during the peak of the pandemic. It is important to note that masks remain mandatory and that the minimum distance of 1.5m be maintained by all persons in the boxing area at all times other than when the greyhounds are being loaded. Both Club and GRV officials will continue to…
