‘Pirate’ poised to pillage Ballarat Cup

Meet greyhound racing’s latest ‘sprinting swashbuckler’ – Pirate Pete. Last week, the plundering Pirate Pete pillaged Ballarat’s 450-metre track record with a scintillating 24.70sec display. Utilising his speedy legs as a ‘cutlass’, Pirate Pete sliced 0.05sec (almost one length) off superstar Shima Shine’s previous mark of 24.75sec, set on August 28 last year. It was no mean feat, given Shima Shine recently won the invitation-only Group 1 Topgun (525m) at The Meadows during the prestigious Metro Festival of Racing. Life on the ‘Edge’

You wouldn’t blame Geoff Collins and partner Rosalyn Hume for being frustrated and a tad uptight with the stop-start career of Razor’s Edge. But no, it’s been quite the contrary. They’ve shown the ‘patience of Job’ with their lightly raced but talent-laden charge, who’ll line up at Sale on Sunday night. The Wattle Flat couple have been in the game too long to lose sight of the ball. And such virtue is now paying dividends. Late last year, Razor’s Edge (May ’17 Cutting Edge x Enjoy) was being set for…

Dark Arrow’s Meadows Target

After battling injury and a loss of confidence throughout much of 2020, John Westerlo’s staying prospect Dark Arrow will be chasing a fifth straight win when he steps up to 725m at The Meadows tonight. Dark Arrow’s 26-start career can be divided into three distinct phases. The well-bred son of Barcia Bale and 2014 Sandown Cup finalist Butterfly Bling, a litter brother to Westerlo’s classy sprinter Mandalorian, won five of his first 12 starts before enduring a 10-race losing sequence. But with victories at his last four starts, he’s ending…
